Root Canals & Surgical Procedures
Think of an ice cream cone that needs new ice cream. That is all a root canal is! It is a root that has an interior that is bad for some reason, and once it is cleaned out and disinfected, it is refilled with a special rubber-like material. After a root canal, a tooth sometimes becomes brittle and must be reinforced with a buildup material or post and then crowned. All in all, the procedure has come very far. It is probably one of the easiest things we do now. No need to fear!
You can expect a comfortable experience during and after your appointment. Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:
- Efficient chewing
- Normal biting force and sensation
- Natural appearance
- Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain
We do so many surgical procedures it is impossible to list all here, but one thing we have learned in all the years that we have been here is this: if someone can avoid having to drive to Springfield, Fayetteville or Little Rock, they would much rather have the work done here in Mountain Home! It saves a trip, and is generally less expensive, so we do all we can to help! We also administer pain medication when necessary.
